Ink System Installations
B.G. Industrial, Inc. started business in 1979 installing ink systems in newspaper facilities. Ink system installations have been B.G. Industrial's core business for many years. B.G. Industrial started out as the primary ink pipe installation contractor for Rockwell Graphic Systems/Goss for approximately 15 years. Today B.G. Industrial works directly for newspapers and the major ink companies who supply ink to the newspaper industry.

B.G. Industrial is the only vendor in the newspaper industry that deals with nearly every aspect of handling ink. B.G. has extensive experience with ink systems from system design, layout, engineering, turnkey installation, commissioning and post-installation system support.
Design
Each newspaper facility possesses its own set of unique characteristics. During the design application stage of a project, B.G. Industrial typically works with the ink and press manufacturers in a consulting role to ensure the design of the ink system specifically meets the needs of the customer. On some projects B.G. Industrial also works directly with the newspaper during the design phase of the project.
Types of Systems
The type of system chosen for a particular newspaper is determined by the operating requirements of the press equipment to be installed. Ink systems are in effect, custom engineered to meet the requirements of the press and are designed to also include any press and facility expansion that may take place in future. Whether the press has page packs, open fountains, keyless ink rails or analox rollers, the ink system is engineered to meet its specific requirements. These characteristics determine the pressure requirements and flow rates (volume) of the system. The most common types of ink systems installed in newspaper plants are:
Low Pressure Systems
   •  Re-Circulating Loop Systems (0 to 160 psi)
   •  Deadhead (Dead End) Pressurized Systems (0 to 300 psi)
High Pressure Systems
   •  Deadhead (Dead End) Pressurized Systems (0 to 3000 psi)
System Components and Specifications
B.G. Industrial provides all components that make up an ink system. These system components consist of ink tanks, level indication equipment, valves, filter strainers, pumps (gear or pneumatic) pressure gauges, switches, regulators, and ink management system controls.

B.G. Industrial has set the standard of ink system specifications in the newspaper industry. Specific system specifications need to be adhered to ensuring that ink supplied to the press does not compromise and damage any of the internal components of the press equipment. All pipe and large fittings are shot blasted, mineral oiled, inspected and capped to ensure the system is of "food grade" quality. The system must be free of any dirt and metal particles before a system is commissioned.
Turnkey Installation
B.G. Industrial, Inc. provides complete mechanical turnkey installation of all the ink systems we install. Installation of the ink system controls and electrical installation can be provided at the customer's request.
Commissioning
When an ink system is commissioned, B.G. Industrial provides onsite support working closely with representatives of the newspaper's ink vendor. On site support is overseeing of the entire commissioning process. It is typical to have several maintenance personnel from the newspaper assist with the commissioning process and instruct them on how the system works and how to operate and maintain it. Commissioning activities include:
   •  Conduct a general inspection of the system to verify that all system components have been installed in accordance with the design, installation drawings and system specifications
   •  Check flow direction arrows on the strainers, relief valves and back pressure valves
   •  Check pressure instrument ranges and location in the system
   •  Check proper locations for all ink tank connections, vents, fill lines, press returns, etc.
   •  Check tank interior and piping (before initial filling)
   •  Valuing sequence of the system is properly selected and tested
   •  Make sure all system components that require with lubricants are filled
   •  Check and adjust as necessary the high and low level indication points on the tanks
   •  Verify that all critical alarm sensors are set and operate correctly
   •  Monitor the initial delivery of ink to the tanks
   •  Ensuring all system controls are functioning correctly
   •  Circulate ink through the entire system and have samples collected for lab analysis
   •  Pressure regulating and balancing of the system.
Support
B.G. Industrial, Inc. provides total system support for all the ink systems B.G. installs. B.G. Industrial is available to answer any questions or address the needs any newspaper may have that relates to handling ink. B.G. Industrial provides sales, service and support in the following areas:

"Charlie Greer and B.G. Industrial built our last color ink systems and the complete black and color ink system in our new press expansion. There is no one more knowledgeable about building ink systems than Charlie Greer. He is always looking out for the customer - not only in controlling costs but also in providing the latest capabilities. Our system has the latest in technology for measuring the amount of ink in the tanks. It uses ultrasonic sensors providing exact information to the ink control panel or PCs linked to the network. This opens many doors for monitoring our ink levels. We can automatically post the information on an internet or intranet sites so even our ink vendors can monitor the supply levels. Charlie and B.G. Industrial employees are a pleasure to work with, always professional and always friendly."

"Dear Charlie, I want to take this opportunity to thank B.G. Industrial, Inc. for a job well done installing the ink system at our Port Morris printing facility. Since day one, the system has performed consistently ensuring our newspaper reaches the newsstands every morning. When a new printing facility of this size is commissioned, it is a constant race against the clock, monitoring and making adjustments to ensure the newspaper gets out on time. The reliability of your ink system has enabled us to focus our efforts in other areas of the facility that need attention, when things are busy and the pressure is on. To cut a long story short, you have helped make our job that much easier.

Also I would like to say your company has provided us with excellent support following-up and responding to our needs as they arise. Knowing that your company is there to help us at a moment's notice makes a big difference. I consider B.G. Industrial, Inc. to be a class organization and I look forward to continue working with you in future."

NEW YORK POST - BRONX, NY
Anthony Michele
Operations Director

(May 20, 2002) - "In April of this year we upgraded our ink system. This system was a nightmare and we couldn't find parts for the ink pressure pots that were installed in 1984. All the lines on the color system are deadhead and are fed to the press from ink totes furnished by our ink vendor. Finding someone that could work on this type of system was very hard to do. I talked to Mr. Pete Timmer of U.S Ink and he suggested we contact B.G. Industrial, Inc. and speak to Mr. Charles Greer about our problems. Pete and Charles came to Bakersfield to evaluate our system and to map out a plan that would satisfy our needs. I was worried about down time since we only have one press but I am happy to report there were none and the total job went off without a hitch. I highly recommend Charles Greer and B.G. Industrial to anyone that have an ink system that needs to be replaced or updated. I looked all over the U.S. and could find no one who wanted to tackle the problems of our ink system. We have new digital ink packs that require the ink pressure to be consistent. Our upgraded system is now capable of supplying the correct ink pressure to our page packs to within one pound of the manufacturer specification. U.S. Ink and B.G. Industrial saved the day. Pete and Charles are two men that will go out of their way to make you a happy satisfied customer; both are knowledgeable and very professional in all they do."
